- Rent-a-car offices exist in almost every corner of the island. The principal ones have branches at the airports.

- Hania: just outside the city at 48 Souda Ave. (EKO) at 407, Souda Ave. (SHELL), at Tsikalaria on the National Road from Hania to Rethimno (MOBIL) and at Kalamaki, 5 km. W. of Hania (MOBIL).
- Rethimno: on the road to Ag. Galini, about 3 km outside town (BP), and on the road for Iraklio (Shell).
- Iraklio: at 12, Ikarou Ave. (MOBIL), at 16, Ikarou Ave. (SHELL) in the city, at Yiofiros (BP) and at Alikarnasso (EKO).
- Lassithi: at the Ag. Nikolaos - Iraklio junction outside of Ag. Nikolaos (Texaco) and on the road from Ag. Nikolaos to lerapetra.
- The following speed limits are in force: 100 km. per hour on the national network for passenger cars and 70 km. for other vehicles and motorbikes, whenever there are no signs stating otherwise. Outside residential areas, 50 km. per hour. and 70 km. per hour on provincial roads for all vehicles. The use of seat belts is obligatory for all persons in the front seat.
